Ants are a common pest in most gardens and homes. Their damage can extend from the roots to the tips of trees.
and become a nuisance in your kitchen and bathroom. Controlling ants can be very challenging.
There can be a problem when the ants are in your garden. They love the move the aphids and mealybugs around and drink their honeydew. Along with the honeydew comes sooty mold, a black fungus that can cause a nasty coating on the leaves of your trees and plants. These three pests must be managed together.
There is about 100-200 types of ants in San Diego County but the most common one to enter homes is the Argentine Ants. Despite the fact that Argentine ants are usually perceived as a nuisance inside the house, they are completely harmless. They don't sting, and they also don't carry any diseases. You can wash them away with water, dish soap, spray cleaners or vinegar. You can place ant baits if you can determine where they enter your house. They will take the bait back to their nest and kill the queen thereby killing the next...until a new queen emerges and you have to deal with the problem again.
